I'm excited to announce that I'm starting a new chapter in my life! I'm working with Dr. Tracy Diefenbach Founder/CEO of the MRMS Research Foundation. I don't have enough ways to explain how awesome Doc T, as we affectionately call her, is and what she is able to do.
Doc has developed and researched and has the evidence to be able to reverse affects from Parkinson's, Dementia, Alzheimer's, Seizures, Autism, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, and the list goes on! When my mom first started down her path of her brain shutting down, this, or better said, Doc is exactly who I was looking for. I knew there had to be a different, better way to change these effects she was going through rather than just being told to go home and make end of life plans for my mom because it was only a matter of time. (I have previous blogs where I talk about my experience with the Drs. I took my mom to.)
Here's how MRMS works, in layman's terms. Using sensory deprivation and rhythmic motion personalized to your natural rhythm, she has you move through a pattern specific to you that reroutes your brain's pathways. Our brain has a pathway, like a sidewalk, that we send our messages through to do our daily routines, like pick up that newspaper and set it over there. And if that sidewalk or pathway gets damaged, or you have stress and cortisol, that pathway gets blocked. It gets harder and harder to travel down that path. Eventually, and sometimes quickly, your sidewalk gets broken, and you are no longer able to travel that way. But our brains just keep using that same sidewalk/pathway, getting stuck where it's broken, and not seeing there's other sidewalks we can use.
As we age, have more stress added, life changing events, and lack of mobility from injuries, we tend to fall into depression because of our stress and trauma, and we stop moving physically and stop mentally growing. Those neurotransmitters keep shrinking back away from their connecting counterparts until we get to a point where it would seem there is no return.
But Doc has found that there is a way to return! Using the MRMS method, we take you over to a new sidewalk/pathway that isn't broken. We show your brain; you can walk here. This way isn't damaged. We know we can make this happen, but there is still more research that needs to be done. We need to find out how long can we travel these new pathways without your brain trying to go back to the broken ones. How often do we need to show your brain that new pathway before it says, I got it. I'm going to stay down this new path.
To do this, we are going to build a new facility in Sioux Falls, SD that will be the MRMS Research Foundation World Center! We're going to need your help to get a new facility built. We are asking for donations and any amount will help. For more information and to donate, you can visit MRMS Research Foundation: Healing Through Client-Based Research.
I am going to fight for this Foundation until my dying day because I know the pain and heartache from having a family member suffer, what it did to my mom, and what it's done and still doing to the rest of my family. The look in my mom's eyes when she had a clear moment saying she knows there's there something wrong with her, but everyone is telling her she's fine. Her confusion and describing what it felt like even though she was trying to tell her brain to do this, but instead was doing that, was excruciating. And then when she looked at me with tears streaming down my face and telling me not to cry when this is what's happening to her. Being able to talk to the real her that last time trying to figure out and understand what was happening to her still breaks my heart to this day. I was thankful for those last 40 minutes I got to spend with her. That was the last day she recognized me. Her real self was inside, but her mind and body were betraying her. I NEVER want anyone to go through that again. I never want any of you to go through that either. And now, we don't have to.
